Visit this portal to learn how to program Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Transaction-SQL (T-SQL) using real world tasks. This website will require that you perform all the provided tasks using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Transaction-SQL (T-SQL). Learn to program T-SQL with confidence.
dbanewbie.com will be providing you with real-world tasks and questions using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and eventually Microsoft SQL Server 2005. dbanewbie.com will make the tasks as clear to you as possible; however, it is up to you to find a solution. Every task that we provide to you must be done via Transact-SQL or T-SQL. Absolutely no GUI. You can then submit your solution to us and in turn, the contributor at dbanewbie.com will provide you with theirs.
The only resource dbanewbie.com will give you is the latest version of Microsoft SQL Book Online. You might have to go further than this and research using Google's group feature. The Google group feature can search Microsoft Newsgroup for you and find what you need along with any errors you might encounter.
dbanewbie.com isn’t a site that’s going to hold your hands and make life easy on you. Its going make you think and make you work. In the end, you will understand how things work and take pride in what you have learned and accomplished.
You will need a computer running 3 instances of MSSQL 2000 with SP3 and KB815495 (look this up at MS' website). The default instance will be considered your 'Production' environment, using port 1433. The other two will be 'dev01' running on port 1434 and 'qa01' and running on port 1435. Everything you do will be done on dev01, then moved to qa01, and finally into your production environment.

I am a bit sick of reading books that talk about theories and working with fake databases and what not. I read them and in the end, I am still pretty confused and the only knowledge I've gained are theories and how the IF...ELSE statement should work. I have looked around and do not see any websites that makes you do your own work. A newbie can easily browse a newsgroup or a mirc chat room and ask for answers but what has that person learn exactly? He/she learn to get solutions from people who know what they are doing or at least one can hope.
Well this website isn't like that. Here, I plan to make people work for their solution. I will not recommend any books or any other resources except for the Microsoft SQL Book Online (BOL); however, I can't stop you from dropping by a newsgroup or asking for help on a mirc chatroom. Everything you need is pretty much in the BOL.
All the tasks presented to viewers on dbanewbie.com will be real ... some tasks will be extremely easy and some will upset the hell out of you. The end result is that you will learn how to effectively be a good database administrator.
